Celebrate the Electronic Cigarette on World Vaping Day
The first ever “World Vaping Day” will be held on March 22, 2012 to celebrate the outstanding success of the electronic cigarette. The event is still in the early stages of planning, but it is proposed to be a celebration happening in several countries. The theme for this year is “E-Cigarettes are the #1 weapon against smoking-related death and disease.” Some of the site's claims are unproven, but few would argue that e cigarette companies are taking a lot of customers away from the tobacco companies.
E-Cigs—Smoking Alternative But Not Approved for Cessation
In the United States, vaping has not been approved by the FDA for safe smoking cessation. As a result, manufacturers cannot advertise them as such. However, the increasing number of converts from smoking to vaping suggest that they are extremely effective smoking alternatives. Currently, they number in the millions worldwide.
The greatest lasting question for the FDA in approving e-cigs for smoking cessation is what kind of long-term effects they could cause. The artificial flavorings used in many brands are a major X factor. Simply put, the flavorings have been tested and approved as food additives, but there has been no reason to test them for inhalation effects until recently. Many health professionals worldwide will agree on this much: They probably are safer than cigarettes.
Why Smokers Love E-Cigarettes as Alternatives
Most people—smokers and non-smokers alike—know that smoking is hazardous to your health. Many cities across the world have indoor smoking bans for that reason. The challenge for smokers is to find a substitute, at least a temporary one, to handle being in a non-smoking situation that lasts longer than their normal “between” smoking time.
Of course, smokers can use nicotine patches, gum and lozenges to curb their nicotine cravings at work, at public buildings and on public transportation. The problem is that nicotine is not the only thing smokers are hooked on. It is the act of smoking that does not get addressed by conventional cessation aids. Treating this aspect of the addiction is what really sets the electronic cigarette apart from other alternatives. You may not actually be smoking, but vaping can curb this craving as well as the nicotine one.
